Sword of the Sea – About This Game

Many of you will be drawn to Sword of the Sea for its blend of high-speed Hoversword movement and meditative exploration as you surf across magnificent waves of sand and glistening waters to restore a lost ocean.

You carve forward on an ancient Hoversword that behaves like a hybrid of snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard. You build momentum, catch big air off towering crests, and pull off flips, spins, and grab tricks while shredding halfpipes, ramps, and wall rides. The motion is both exhilarating and fluid, designed to feel like a flowing session rather than a sequence of isolated actions.

You explore a world where the land itself flows in constant waves. From massive tides to the smallest ripples, dunes, deserts, and glacial mountains undulate beneath your blade. You find hidden secrets in skatepark-like ruins and sinking tombs, and each environment is rendered with striking visual detail that critics have called “the most striking visuals of the new game…” and “a brand new Journey.”

You inhabit the Wraith, resurrected in a desolate Necropolis on a mission to unveil the ancient sea buried beneath the land. As you transform sandy dunes into emerald waters, you watch sealife return in breathtaking shoals and feel a spiritual connection to the restored world. That sense of wonder sits alongside darker forces lurking beneath the waves, giving your journey emotional depth and narrative stakes.

You experience a legacy of art, design, and music from Giant Squid, led by creative director Matt Nava with a score by Austin Wintory.
